Joel Dewberry Fabrics Just In!!!

We are so excited to offer you some more great fabrics.  We know it has been a while since we have added to our fabrics department but I am sure you won't mind when you see the new prints by Joel Dewberry.  Joel Dewberry has quickly become a favorite of ours and you'll surely see why with these two great prints that when combined can make for a really funky new project.  The first is Narrow Stripe in Blue It's soothing to the eye and reminds me of the cool crisp ocean on a hot summer day! This stripe pattern combines baby blue, navy, seafoam green, pale yellow and aqua into a nicely placed stripe print. Pair it with a floral print like the one below, some tiny dots, big disco dots and you have your next quilt project.  This is also a great print to accent your baby boy's nursery. How about a new bumper for the crib or maybe a new baby blanket combined with a soft minkee fabric?  The options are endless.  I highly suggest (if you are not afraid of trying something a little bit funkier) pairing this Narrow Stripe print with Joel Dewberry's Espree print. I can just envision these two with a solid white to create a gorgeous new duvet cover can't you? Hmmm... maybe I will have to do that myself, I could really use a new bedding set.  How about those old chair cushions you've been meaning to re-cover?  How cool would they look with these great new prints?  Maybe a tablecloth or some napkins or even new placemats?  The options are endless so let's get creative and make something great with two modern yet timeless prints from Joel Dewberry! Got more ideas for these two?  Please feel free to share and comment to this post.

Handmade Baby Poof

KJ my stepson, came to me with a drawing of Baby Poof and asked me to make him out of fabric. It came out pretty cute and we had a lot of fun making him.  We took a plate and traced it onto two pieces of natural hemp fleece. We then cut out 2 half circles from some purple fabric.  We sewed the purple fabric to the hemp fleece, made some arms and legs and embroidered a cute little nose and mouth.  We then made some eyes, sewed them on and stitched up the front to the back and stuffed him.  It only took us about 30 minutes.  I hope you enjoy watching the video!  If
Want something made?  Send us a picture and we will see what we can do!
Enjoy!

Superhero Capes

My favorite customer and friend, Ale wanted me to make her son Maxx and daughter Alexa some cool superhero capes. It is going to be their Christmas gift to one another.  It was a really cute idea, especially since Maxx really is a superhero.   After all, he did save his little sister from running out the door and down the street by herself!  That definitely make him a hero, and I think a hero deserves a special cape. So, that was my project for the day.  I think they came out pretty cute.  What do you think?  Feel free to comment.  Like I've said before I will make anything, so if you want something, just ask!  I can do custom orders of just about anything and I really enjoy it!

The Great Crayon Caper

We are proud to partner up with What's Hot For Tots for a great cause! We are collecting crayons. We do not want new crayons but rather your old broken ones.
Let us explain:
In an effort to put a crayon in every kid's hand and not the landfills, we are embarking on the Great Crayon Caper. Our mission is simple, take old unwanted broken crayons and bits of crayon and restore them to brand new and place them in the hands of every little budding Picasso. There are currently 4.7 million children in the US alone with learning disabilities (Source: CDC).
Here's how you can help:
During the month of September, sign up to be a part of our Crayon Caper Crew and What's Hot For Tots will reward you with their signature color crayons {pink & brown} and fun activity coloring book along with another great prize. For the person referred by us who sends in the most crayons, we will award you with our My Little Crayon Roll-Up filled with brand new Crayola Crayons, but be sure to note AB BABY in the "How did you hear about us" section to be entered to win.

Collecting crayons is a family affair; a great way for kids to be introduced to the concept of recycling. So sign up here and we will send you a postcard explaining how and where to send your crayons. We will have your crayons melted down and transformed into shiny new chunky crayons that are the perfect size for little hands. These crayons will be donated to schools, hospitals and care centers.
Fast facts about crayons
Q: What are basic ingredients of a crayon?
A: Pigment {color} & paraffin {wax}
Q: How long does it take a crayon to decompose in a landfill?
A: Forever. Wax is non-biodegradable.
FYI: In the last 97 years, over 100 billion Crayola® crayons have been made.
Thank you for your support in bringing Crayola Crayons to kids who need them and helping the earth!

All the best, Kristen Lemoine

Scraps, Scraps & More Scraps

After cutting pattern after pattern after pattern each and every day, my studio can quickly be overcome with fabric scraps. To some sewers and crafters this can be quite burdensome, but for me it is a wonderful opportunity to be anything but wasteful. Never does a scrap go to waste! These annoyances can easily become works of beauty and works of art! I save my scraps in clear bags assorted by color and stored. When the bags begin to overflow or the urge to use them arises these scraggly pieces full of strings and raw edges are cut and pieced together to be come functional items! This particular assortment (shown) will become a very funky, one of a kind, gender neutral quilt soon to be available for purchase in the A.B. Baby Boutique! We will be sure to post it when completed!

Where have I been?

Where oh where have I been? You may have been wondering that. Let's see, school let out, the kids are home for the summer and I decided to take a break for 2 weeks. Sort of. Well I did for the most part. I mean orders still came in that I had to fill and ship, but for the most part I did my best (the best any business owner can do) and stayed mostly out of the office (studio) and played with the kids. Some necessary fun is always good for you. So after 2 weeks at the beach, on our favorite island, on the boat and in the pool, I am back with tons of ideas, a re-charge of motivation and a tan I am hoping won't age me too much.

Up today is a new line of fabulous cozy and gorgeous Textured Quilts. Modeling my favorite one, is Alexa, the adorably cute daughter of my best customer and biggest fan Alessandra. I know the baby is just edible, but no, she is not for sale. If she was well, let's just say I would take her (remember I have boys)! However, the blanket is and you can find it right here! These blankets are full of texture, something babies crave and actually need to develop their senses. These Textured Quilts come in a few different sizes from mini lovey sizes to full crib quilts and nap blankets. All are of course handmade and double washed for softness and to give it that textured frayed quality. Look for many new styles to come in the next few weeks.

These Textured Quilts make a fabulous baby shower gift or gift for yourself. They are great to take on road trips, cozy to take on your next flight and are just as wonderful placed on the floor for tummy time!

As always I love to hear your comments so if you have something to say, please do!

See you tomorrow & Happy Summer!
Kristen :)

I've been harassed enough...

I have been harassed enough. On Monday I met with my friend and affiliate Angela. She is a fabulous photographer. If you ever want some really beautiful portraits she is your woman! We met at Starbucks where my sister Jacque was kind enough to give us some free joe. We chatted about our upcoming collaborative trunk show (end of March or first weekend in April) and plans etc. Working out the details and such she asked me the question that I have been asked over and over again! "Do you make shopping cart covers?" I said, "Actually I am going to make one today!" that was my deciding moment. For a year now, I have been asked that question from friends, customers and relatives so I decided to just go do it.
So I made my first shopping cart cover and it came out fantastic! I really love it! But, I realized that it won't fit on Costco's carts. So, while buying too much stuff and spending mucho dinero at Costco this weekend, I decided to measure those darn carts. Luckily I was with the husband and he, being a man, had a measuring tape in his truck.
So I did my trial run of my Deluxe Shopping Cart Cover and wallah! It works. So now I will have both up for sale. Depending on their popularity, I will determine to continue making both or just make the Deluxe. After all, it fits on any cart! It is super cute and I wish I had a little baby to use it with!
